The Origin: From the Tech Trenches to the Edmonton Underground

Long before I opened a formal shop, I operated at the intersection of tech and the music subculture.

My days started in the corporate tech world, working for Dell as an anti-spyware technician. I spent hours doing remote-access repairs on computers that people had inevitably bricked on day one by downloading sketchy torrents or browsing adult sites. It was a trial by fire in digital troubleshooting, right up until the corporate axe swung and my entire department was outsourced to the Philippines.

But my real passion was happening after hours. I was heavily embedded in the local Edmonton music scene, booking and promoting independent shows for crowds of 50 to 500 people. I did it because I loved the music, but over time, the local scene shifted—becoming plagued by too much drama and outright violence. I walked away from promoting, but I didn't walk away from music.

Spotting the "It" Factor

That’s when I caught a basement rehearsal for some local friends of mine who were playing under the name StandByMe.

Having booked hundreds of bands over the years, I knew what generic sounded like. But the first day I watched them play in that basement, I knew they had something entirely different. They had the "it" factor. I immediately went to work directly with them.

Not long after, we caught the attention of MuchMusic and a reality show called Disband. The rest is Canadian music history. The band rebranded as Stereos, we all packed our bags, and we relocated to Toronto—the true hub of the Canadian music industry—to chase the storm.

The Road: Gold Records & The Merch Reality

From 2009 to 2012, I lived on the highway during a wild run that earned the band multiple gold and platinum records.

I put countless miles on the band van, traveling across the continent and managing the chaotic reality of a major-label touring act. Because of the fast-paced, unpredictable nature of live music tours, I mastered the art of the last-minute turnover—getting gear designed, printed, and ready under extreme time constraints.

The Brutal Truth: Streaming and music sales don't cut it alone anymore. Artists and brands need killer merchandise to survive and stay profitable. I didn’t learn how to print apparel from a generic manual; I learned it because I saw firsthand how vital a great t-shirt or hoodie is to an artist’s livelihood.

The Evolution: Born From a Broken System

When I transitioned off the road, I took those high-speed lessons and built Spinink, a large-scale commercial screen-printing company. We grew fast, but we were constantly squeezed at the margins by corporate clients demanding rock-bottom prices.

We watched competing businesses thrive on government subsidies, or worse—paying people under the table just to undercut the marketplace. Refusing to play that game meant we had to constantly hustle against unfair competition just to keep the doors open. It was a high-stress, high-rent, low-margin treadmill.

The traditional mass-production model was fundamentally broken. So, I closed it, spent time reinventing the wheel, and built something better.

jons.spot is the ultimate evolution. I now operate with zero traditional employees. Instead, I only work alongside true entrepreneurship partners—people with skin in the game who want to build something of their own. It ensures total accountability, elite quality control, and means every dollar stays local, supporting Canadians who actually want to work and build a future alongside me.

Onsite Live Activations: Bringing the Shop to You

Because of my background in live music and fast turnarounds, I don't just print behind closed doors. I bring the production directly to your event.

I offer Onsite Live Activations for live embroidery, printing, and laser engraving. Whether it's a corporate event, a festival, or a private VIP gathering, I have a variety of mobile production setups that can be adapted to fit the scale and style of your venue.

  • Where I Go: While I am based in Toronto, geography doesn't limit the hustle. I will travel nearly anywhere across Ontario or Quebec. With the right planning and lead time, I can arrange custom setups for events coast-to-coast across Canada.

  • Cost & Scalability: Because every venue and event is unique, pricing varies based on the specific gear, logistics, and depth of setup required. Reach out directly to inquire about booking.

Beyond the Apparel: Tech & Talent

While customization is the backbone of what I do here, jons.spot is also a hub for my other ventures and projects outside of the apparel world.

  • AI Coding & Development: When I’m not running machinery, I dabble heavily in building and experimenting with AI code, automation, and tech integration. If you have a project that bridges the gap between physical production and bleeding-edge tech, I’m always down to talk strategy.

  • Artist Management & Representation: I’ve never truly left the music industry. Today, I actively represent and work alongside a select roster of musical artists. You can check out their dedicated profiles right here on this website. For all booking requests, press inquiries, or collaboration opportunities, you can reach out to me directly through the site's contact page.

Keeping It Real: Pricing & Expectations

For standard custom apparel orders, I believe in absolute transparency from day one.

  • No Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ): If you only need a single, custom piece, I will make it for you.

  • The Cost of "One-Offs": Creating a timely, unique, individual piece requires a significant amount of setup and craftsmanship. Because of this, small orders and single items carry a premium price tag.

  • Is this the right spot for you? If you aren’t prepared to invest $50 to $100 into a high-quality custom piece or gift, my services will likely be too expensive for your budget. I prioritize time, skill, and premium execution over mass-produced cheapness.

If you respect the craft, appreciate upfront honesty, and want to collaborate with someone who operates across apparel, music, and tech, you’re in the right spot.

Let’s build something.
